Scores range from 0 to 100. 60–70 is considered standard and easy for most adults. Scores above 70 are very easy to read (plain English), while scores below 30 are very difficult (academic/legal texts). Most web content should aim for 60–70.
The FK Grade Level corresponds to US school grade levels. A score of 8 means the text is readable by an 8th grader (around 13-14 years old). Most general web content should target a grade level of 6–9.
Use shorter sentences (aim for under 20 words on average), choose simpler words, break up long paragraphs, and use bullet points or headings to aid scanning.
